HireVue online appraisal FAQs
What technology do I need?
All you need is internet access and a device capable of recording video, such as a smartphone, tablet or webcam. If you are using a webcam, HireVue will ask you to allow Flash Player to access your system. You should click ‘allow’ and ‘remember’ before closing the pop-up window.
How do I use HireVue?
Once you have clicked the link that is sent through to you via email, you will see important information about your interview, including the number of questions and the duration. Following this, HireVue will check that your recording equipment is working correctly, and you will see a short video from Pulse that explains the interview process.

When should I complete my appraisal?
We strongly recommend that you complete your appraisal within 24 hours of receiving the invitation email. This is so the clinical assessor can review your answers as quickly as possible.
How long does it take to complete?
Our appraisals typically take just 20-30 minutes to complete. Since they’re on-demand, you can do it at any time, in the comfort of your own home.
Can I pause the appraisal?
Yes, you can pause the appraisal before each question. Simply exit the browser and click on the ‘practice or interview’ link in your invitation email when you’re ready to resume. Please note however, that once you’ve listened to a question, you must answer it before you can pause the appraisal.
I haven’t received my invitation email
If you can’t see the email, try checking your spam or junk folder. If you still can’t find it, please contact your consultant for help.
Who will see my appraisal?
Once you have completed your appraisal, a clinical assessor will review it. If the appraisal is approved with no question, they will be the only person who sees your appraisal. Should the assessor have any questions regarding the way you have answered or the content of your answer, the assessor will speak with the compliance manager who will review the appraisal and advise whether a follow up call between yourself and the assessor is necessary.
Should I be concerned about data protection and privacy?
We take data protection seriously and have processes in place to ensure we adhere to the Data Protection Act 2018. We considered data protection carefully when choosing HireVue; we’re confident that it has put sufficient physical, managerial, and technical safeguards in place to ensure the security of its systems and the data stored there. Do video appraisals encourage discrimination?
No, on-demand video interviews help us make unbiased, rational decisions about candidates. They allow us to revisit your answers, and rely less on superficial ‘gut instinct’ or memory.

Please visit HireVue’s common problems and solutions page. If your issue isn’t listed here, please contact the HireVue support team at support@HireVue.com or by phone. If you lose internet connection during the appraisal, don’t panic. Simply close your web browser, reopen it, access your email invitation and click on the ‘practice or interview’ link to re-launch the appraisal. You will be returned to your last unanswered question.
