Head of Psychology – Sussex (salary at circa Band 8b or 8c)

Pulse is looking to recruit a Lead Clinical or Forensic Psychologist in Sussex for a Low Secure / Locked Rehabilitation service with excellent transport links to central London. You will be providing leadership and high standards of care in a safe secure therapeutic environment to adults referred or admitted and supervising the assistant psychologists.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Manage the work and personal development of experienced psychologists and graduate psychologists


  • Contribute to professional and service developments


  • Provide leadership and promote an active learning environment within the team


  • Lead a team in developing and presenting programmes of care and provide support to team members in analysis of data


  • Ensure all policies and procedures are always followed and to provide written reports and records of relevant procedures


  • Confirm that all resources are being used effectively 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Post graduate doctoral level training in either Clinical or Forensic Psychology as accredited by the BPS (including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology)

  • Be a registered practitioner psychologist recognised by the HCPC

  • Pre or post- doctoral training in areas of applied psychological practise e.g. CBT AND DBT

  • Clinical supervision training for psychology staff

  • Any doctoral training in specialist risk assessment

  • Post qualification training in at least one therapeutic approaches (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy or Interpersonal Psychotherapy.)

    Experience needed:


  • Working with a diversity range of client groups

  • Working in forensic services with adults

  • Working with adults who have complex clinical, rehabilitation and/or offending needs

  • Teaching and training

  • A professional communication manner orally and in writing.

  • Handlining with complex and clinically sensitive information to service users and their families
