EPIC and ECFMG document verification for International Medical Graduates

All doctors applying to the General Medical Council (GMC) who hold a primary medical qualification awarded outside the UK need to have certain medical qualifications independently verified by ECFMG before the GMC will grant registration. This applies if you:

• qualified at a medical school outside of the UK and
• do not already hold provisional registration.

Before you start the verification process you should check that the GMC accepts your qualification.

Who is ECFMG and what is EPIC?

ECFMG is the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates who provide access to a service that verified the authenticity of credentials. The service is called EPIC which stands for Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials.
