Duchess of Cambridge launches Nursing Now campaign

The Duchess of Cambridge has both launched and become a patron of a new global campaign to raise the profile and status of nursing. Along with nurses and nursing leaders from around the world, she visited St Thomas’ Hospital on 27 February to launch the Nursing Now campaign.

The campaign aims to advocate for improved education, investment in more nurses, innovative practices, and more leadership positions in the field.

“I’d like to congratulate and thank nurses everywhere for the difference you make,” she told the audience of nursing and healthcare leaders. “Nurses look after us at our happiest and saddest times, your dedication and professionalism is awe-inspiring.” Duchess of Cambridge

Nursing Now seeks to empower nurses to take their place at the heart of tackling 21st-century health challenges. The campaign is intended to recognise and promote nursing as being at the heart of efforts by countries around the world to provide healthcare for all, influencing policymakers and supporting nurses themselves to “lead, learn and build a global movement.”

Nursing Now was founded by nurses and other health experts based on the findings of the 2016 Triple Impact Report which found that empowering nurses boosts health globally and also helps improve gender equality and build stronger economies.

The three-year global initiative, which is run in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses and World Health Organization, has five main goals to reach by the end of 2020.

“Nurses and midwives represent the largest share of health workers and provide care for our families and communities when we need them most.” Ms. Iro, WHO chief nurse

The Duchess of Cambridge, who is pregnant with her third child, is said to have been inspired by her great-grandmother and grandmother who were both volunteer nurses and learned first-hand about the care and compassion that sometimes only nurses can provide.

Pulse Nursing is supporting the Nursing Now campaign and would like to take this opportunity to say that we think you’re awesome and thank you for the compassionate care you provide. Your hard work and dedication make a difference to so many people’s lives every day.
