Position – Scrub Theatre Practitioner/ODP
Location – Somerset
Salary – £27,000 - £35,000 per annum

Job Purpose
The post holder will act as a member of the Theatre team and will be responsible for the delivery of safe, high quality patient focused care. Will be responsible for ensuring all resources within that area are used to optimum effect, ensuring the highest quality patient care standards.
To act as the Named nurse for a caseload of patients undergoing surgery.

About the role
As an ODP (Scrub), you’ll be responsible for:
• Preparing an operating theatre room for surgery in relation to instrumentation, equipment and supplies required
• Ensuring all necessary and emergency equipment is available and in working order
• Ensuring patient records are completed in a timely and accurate way
• Acting as preceptor for student ODP’s, learners, junior nurses and Auxiliary nurses
• Running a theatre list without supervision and supervise and mentor junior staff
• Perform scrub and circulating duties within two specialist areas
• The appropriate delegation of staff and duties within your theatre
• Maintaining effective channels of communication at all times.
• Reporting all accidents and untoward incidents and complete appropriate forms
• Undertaking any other duties that may reasonably be required (eg, equipment maintenance, Procurement, Stock Control etc)
• Assisting in positioning and preparation of the patient as directed by the surgical team
• Providing immediate post-operative care
• Providing initial emergency care as required• Helping to maintain infection control by observing department policy on dress and by maintaining a clean working environment

Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for the role of ODP (Scrub), you’ll need to demonstrate:

• Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) in Operating Department Practice, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Registered member of the College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP)
• Evidence of recent practice in Theatre/Recovery/Ward areas
• You will have Scrub experience
• Up to date clinical skills appropriate to surgery areas
• Demonstrable record of Continuing Professional Development
• Ability to teach/coach peers, junior staff & trainees
• Excellent standard of patient/client care
• Good communication skills written & verbal
• Effective influencing skills with peer group & senior healthcare professionals
• Teaching & mentoring skills
• Ability to prioritise workload, instruct & direct others
• Ability to cope with change/adaptability/flexibility and a proactive approach
• Demonstrable organisational and leadership abilities
• Skills to motivation staff and colleagues
