Hours – Full Time 37.5hrs Per Week

My client 
My client is a state of the art hospital covering a wide range of disciplines, including orthopaedics, cardiothoracic and neurosurgery.  They are currently seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Practice Educator/Development Nurse to join our team. 

Working at the bedside you will support and develop new members of the nursing and support teams and AHP’s, assisting with their induction’ competency based assessments and on-going professional development. 

You will also mentor student nurses and support those returning to practice.

Role Purpose:

Duties will include promoting high standards of care and promoting professional development. You will be a trained mentor with a qualification in Teaching and Assessment and experience in a senior nursing role.
 
The busy hospital provides outpatient and inpatient care for patients undergoing a range of complex surgery. In addition it also cares for those requiring intervention during their oncology treatment, palliative care and those with complex medical conditions.

As a Practice Educator your purpose will be:
To  work  closely  with  members of staff  at  point of care delivery  (for at  least  40-60% of  the working  week)
To enhance the continuous professional development of all staff members throughout the hospital.
To implement induction programmes for new starters using competence- based assessments.
To contribute toward the development of policies/procedures and implementation of clinical guidelines.
To use incident report to inform areas for development and future training.

Key Accountabilities
Management: 
To  work closely  with  department managers  to  ensure  that  all  new  clinical/support staff are  appropriately inducted  and  orientated.
To assist in the management of learning resources including mandatory training and online resources.
Work with matron and senior team to manage the education budget
Supports and mentors senior staff in performance management where support is required.
Manages own workload responding to sudden changes in service needs Successful completion of orientation and induction programs.
Efficient use of the training budget.

To be an effective role model. Able to skilfully demonstrate a wide breadth of clinical expertise.
Is visibly active in own continuing personal, professional & practice development.
To help promote & facilitate the professional development of nursing, support staff and Allied Health Professional colleagues.
Oversees the hospitals mentorship records and program for pre- registration nursing students in designated clinical areas & helps to support mentor in their clinical supervision of students.
To be aware of current evidence-based practice and to help incorporate this in the delivery of excellence in nursing care.
To contribute to the development of nursing clinical guidelines.

To contribute to the development of: 
Staff competencies. 
Staff development & training.
Patient satisfaction surveys.
Staff satisfaction surveys.

Clinical Outcomes:
To take  part  in hospital  clinical  audit  programs  and ensure  that  a programme  of learning by  experience  is put in place  and risks are effectively monitored.
To  be  responsible  for  the  planning  of audit  activities  and  working  with Heads of Departments to  ensure  they  fulfil their  responsibilities  in audit, action  plans and delivering clinical outcomes.
To  develop,  promote  and  maintain  systems  for the  monitoring and reporting  on quality  assurance  compliance  in accordance  with statutory and  health policies and procedures.
To assist in the delivery of the shared governance programmes.
Identify opportunities   for quality improvement and assist departments to establish quality assurance procedures.
To work closely with matron, deputy matron, infection   prevention leads to organize clinical audits.
Planning and implementation of an annual audit programme in line with the Health policy.
Compliance with reporting of audit results and on-going monitoring with results reported on Share Point
Evidence of audit results being shared with Heads of Departments and at the governance committee.
Evidence to support the introduction of new practices based upon audit results.
Develop and maintain quality assurance systems to support audit and outcome programmes.
Provide assurance and develop where needed policies, guidelines and procedures to support good clinical outcomes.

Requirements for Post
Qualifications
Essential:
Registered Nurse Mentorship 
Teaching and Assessing and/or Practice Education Qualification
Experience at Senior Level e.g., Ward Sister/Charge Nurse; Practice Development Role 

Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
Clinical experience in a qualified role (This should include experience of working in a senior role)
Teaching, Assessing and Student/Clinician Support 
Managing Budgets
