Are you a Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine looking for a new opportunity?

Pulse is delighted to unveil an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine, based in Sussex.

This is a full time, permanent position and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in the delivery of high quality emergency medical care to our patients.

As a dedicated professional, the key responsibilities encompass providing expert medical care within the emergency department, where the focus lies in assessing, diagnosing, and initiating treatment for individuals presenting with diverse emergency medical conditions.

This role emphasises collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to guarantee a cohesive and comprehensive approach to patient care. Additionally, a pivotal aspect of this position involves contributing to the continuous enhancement of clinical services through active involvement in audit, research, and service development, thereby ensuring the delivery of high quality healthcare and the advancement of medical practices.

The specialty doctor, alongside two registrars, maintain a comprehensive 24-hour middle grade rota. Their responsibilities include the primary management of department attendees, overseeing and aiding junior doctors. Collaboration with the nurse in charge (shift coordinator) ensures safe and timely patient management. The specialty doctor also verifies the appropriateness of diagnoses for observation bed admissions, potentially assisting the consultant in morning patient reviews. Leading the trauma team and aiding the cardiac arrest team may be required. Post holders are tasked with reviewing X-ray reports and arranging follow-ups for missed fractures. With an average of 11 weekly sessions, including 2 for antisocial hours and 2 as a recruitment and retention bonus, the rota involves one weekend every four weeks and one night every eight weeks, providing sufficient days off during the week.

Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Minimum of 4 years of postgraduate experience.
  • MRCEM qualification (Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine) is essential.
  • Previous experience working within the NHS is mandatory.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
