Role Overview: As a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert clinical leadership and guidance in the assessment and treatment of older adults with mental health disorders. Based on your extensive knowledge and expertise, you will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative and person-centered services to meet the unique needs of older adults in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of older adults with a range of mental health conditions, including dementia, depression, and anxiety.
  • Lead and supervise multidisciplinary teams, including junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to the individual needs and preferences of older adult patients.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers, social services, and community organizations to promote integrated care and support for older adults with mental health needs.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to colleagues, patients, families, and carers on matters relating to old age psychiatry.
  • Contribute to the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, and other healthcare professionals.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent accreditation in Old Age Psychiatry.
  • Extensive experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist, with a focus on older adults.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to delivering person-centered care and promoting the dignity and well-being of older adults.
  • Dedication to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of developments in old age psychiatry.
