Band 6 Occupational Therapist – Acute Medicine

Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist with experience in acute medicine to join our esteemed team in London. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced acute care setting, providing high-quality occupational therapy services to individuals with acute medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients admitted to acute medicine wards to evaluate their functional abilities, occupational performance, and needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, evidence-based practice guidelines, and patient-centered goals.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy interventions to address deficits in activities of daily living, mobility, and self-care skills, utilizing therapeutic modalities and adaptive equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and social workers, to ensure coordinated and integrated care for patients.
  • Monitor patients’ progress throughout their hospital stay and make appropriate adjustments to treatment plans to optimize outcomes and facilitate safe discharge.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families on strategies for maximizing independence, managing symptoms, and promoting recovery.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Proven experience working as an Occupational Therapist in acute medicine settings, with a strong understanding of acute medical conditions and their impact on occupational function.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs and goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and engage patients and their families in the rehabilitation process.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the fast-paced and dynamic environment of acute care settings.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, person-centered care and promoting best practices in occupational therapy.
