Managing Director - Social Work

Steve has over 14 years’ recruitment experience and has been with Pulse for over eight. He’s responsible for the sales and operational running of Pulse Social Work. The business places thousands of qualified social workers into NHS trusts, local authorities, social services departments, voluntary and charitable organisations, and private hospitals across the UK.

He values honesty, integrity and ensures a high quality service for both candidates and clients. Steve’s consistently grown all of his business areas and considers the most rewarding part of his role to be developing his teams’ careers; with over 80% of his management team starting out at Pulse in junior positions.

Karina Okonta

Recruitment Manager

Karina has been working within the recruitment industry for four years and currently leads two teams at Pulse. She is responsible for managing the recruitment team, working closely with candidates to guide them through the process of registration and preparing for work.

She also supports clients by ensuring all candidates are well experienced, fully compliant and available. Karina’s strong knowledge of the industry allows her to meet specific needs of both her candidates and clients.

Robert Jones

Business Manager

Robert is responsible for managing the social work teams. His role includes internal liaison for contract management, client queries and business development. He’s been in social work recruitment for the past eight years, three of which have been at Pulse.

Robert’s strong knowledge of the social work sector combined with working closely with candidates allows him to find the most suitable placements as well as being able to design staffing solutions for his clients in a market where quality is key.

Michael Shaw

Head of Social Work

Mike is the head of Pulse Social Work and is responsible for the strategic development of the business. With over 10 years recruitment experience, including five years placing qualified social workers within local authorities, NHS, private organisations and charity’s, and five years management experience, Mike is perfectly placed to run the division.

He is responsible for the day to day running of the business including; maintaining relationships with clients and building new client relationships, developing and delivering training, maintaining strong relationships with managed service providers and running development forums.

Andrew Lockett

Client Relationship Manager

Andrew has been working in recruitment since 2008 and is the key liaison between Pulse Social Work and our client case. He visits clients, including local authorities, NHS, private organisations and charities on a regular basis to conduct review meetings and resolve any issues at as early a stage as possible.

With over three years experience as a Principal Recruitment Consultant and seven years within the social work sector, Andrew brings a wide range of skills and in-depth knowledge to the team.
