What is World Pharmacy Day?
World Pharmacy Day was created by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in 2010 to promote and advocate the role of pharmacists across the world. This is an annual event that takes place on 25 September every year.
Is there a theme?
Yes, the theme of this year’s event is “From research to health care: Your pharmacist is at your service”.
What’s the hash tag for social media?
#WorldPharmacistsDay is the hash tag promoted by the FIP. We'll be sharing World Pharmacists Day related information on social media throughout the day. Make sure you follow us.
Are there any famous pharmacists?
Yes, there are many but here are our favourites:
Alexander Fleming - Probably the most famous of them all, Alexander discovered penicillin in 1928.
Jesse Boot – Although not the founder, Jesse transformed Boots Pharmacy in to the national retailer we know it to be today. It was his father John Boot who originally founded the company.
John Pemberton – The American pharmacist who invented Coca-Cola. Pemberton invented the drink as a way to overcome a morphine addiction he had established after the civil war.
