**Position Overview:**
We are currently seeking a dedicated Senior House Officer (SHO) to join an inpatient ward specializing in Old Age Psychiatry in Poole, Dorset. As an SHO in Old Age Psychiatry, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive psychiatric care to older adults with complex mental health needs, contributing to their assessment, treatment, and recovery within an inpatient setting.

 

**Key Responsibilities:**
– Conduct psychiatric assessments and provide evidence-based interventions for older adults presenting with a range of mental health conditions, including dementia, depression, and psychosis.
– Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring the holistic needs of patients are addressed.
– Monitor and review the mental health status and treatment progress of patients, adjusting management plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.
– Provide crisis intervention and support to patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms or behavioral disturbances, ensuring their safety and well-being.
– Liaise with patients’ families, carers, and external agencies to facilitate discharge planning and continuity of care in the community.
– Participate in regular clinical supervision, case discussions, and educational activities to support professional development and enhance clinical skills.

 

**Requirements:**
– Medical degree and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
– Prior experience working in Psychiatry, preferably within Old Age Psychiatry, though candidates with a keen interest in the field will also be considered.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
– Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and adapt to the demands of an inpatient psychiatric setting.
– Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical and professional standards.
