Victim support post workplace assault

All workplace assaults should be reported. Understand what you need to do to report it and how to access the support you need.

What to do if you are assaulted at work

  • Inform your placements senior team member, i.e. the nurse in charge, matron, site manager at the client site.
  • Contact us immediately and speak to your booking consultant, clinical team or out of hours team:
  • Report the assault to the police immediately.
  • Ask to see local client policy, which may also offer guidance and any specific processes you should follow.
  • Record it on the client’s incident reporting system and keep a record. Let us know once you have done this and we will record this on our files on your behalf (on receipt of details).
  • There may be occasions where there is an increased risk of violence due to staffing shortages or staffing concerns. It is important to raise these concerns and any incidents that occur because of this locally with the client organisation or with Pulse Nursing.
  • If you are asked for a statement, we’re here to help. Please contact our clinical team for guidance on completing and submitting this.
  • If you require time off because you have been injured or feel unsafe to return to work, please contact your consultant for guidance.
  • In some circumstances, you may be entitled to compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) if you were injured in England, Scotland or Wales. For injuries sustained in Northern Ireland contact Northern Ireland Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme.
