FAQs - Video interviewing

Do I have to do a video interview?

No, but we really would encourage you to give it a try! It’s very easy and far more convenient for you. It will increase the speed and efficiency of your screening too – which means less waiting.

Who will see my video interview?

An evaluator in the office will view your interview and report back to your consultant. Once you’ve completed a video interview, one of our consultants will review it and contact you to discuss next steps.

What technology do I need?

All you need is internet access and a device capable of recording video, such as a smart phone, tablet or webcam. If you are using a webcam, HireVue will ask you to allow Flash Player to access your system; you should click ‘allow’ and ‘remember’ before closing the pop up window.

Should I be concerned about data protection and privacy?

We take data protection seriously and have processes in place to ensure we adhere to the Data Protection Act 1998. We considered data protection carefully when choosing HireVue; we’re confident that it has put sufficient physical, managerial, and technical safeguards in place to ensure the security of its systems and the data stored there. Your data will only be accessible by HireVue and Pulse. If you have any further concerns, please contact us or contact HireVue.

Does video interview encourage discrimination?

No – we would have to meet with you in person anyway. In fact, on-demand video interviews actually help us make unbiased, rational decisions about candidates. They allow us to revisit your answers, and rely less on superficial ‘gut instinct’ or memory.

When should I complete the video interview?

We strongly recommend that you complete the video interview within 24 hours of receiving the invitation email. This is so we can review your answers and continue the registration process as quickly as possible.

How long does it take to complete?

Our video interviews typically take just 20-30 minutes to complete. Since they’re on-demand, you can do it at any time, in the comfort of your own home.

Can I pause the interview?

Yes, you can pause the interview before each question. Simply exit the browser, and click on the ‘practice or interview’ link in your invitation email when you’re ready to resume. Please note however, that once you’ve listened to a question, you must answer it before you can pause the interview.

I haven’t received my invitation email.

Your email invitation should have the subject line ‘[Job title] interview with Pulse’, and will come from Pulse(interviews@HireVue.com). If you can’t see the email, try checking your spam or promotions folder. If you still can’t find it, please contact your dedicated consultant for help.

I’m having tech issues – who can help?

Please visit HireVue’s common problems and solutions page. If your issue isn’t listed here, please contact the HireVue support team at support@HireVue.com or by phone. If you lose internet connection during the interview, don’t panic. Simply close your web browser, reopen it, access your email invitation and click on the ‘practice or interview’ link to re-launch the interview. You will be returned to your last unanswered question.
