NMC Revalidation at Pulse

From April 1 2016 revalidation will be introduced by the NMC for all nurses and midwives. Revalidation is straightforward and will help you to demonstrate that you practice safely and effectively. 

Our specialist Revalidation Team is on hand to support Pulse nurses and midwives, where we are their main employer, through the NMC revalidation process.  We have developed a process to encourage nurses and midwives to stay up to date in their professional practice, and to drive a culture of sharing, reflection and continuous improvement. 

All nurses and midwives are required to revalidate with the NMC every three years, whether you work in the NHS, private sector or you are a full-time agency worker. In order to successfully revalidate and renew your NMC registration you must complete the following criteria:

  • 450 practice hours, or 900 if renewing as both a nurse and midwife
  • 35 hours of CPD including 20 hours of participatory learning
  • Five pieces of practice-related feedback
  • Five written reflective accounts
  • Reflective discussion
  • Health and character declaration
  • Professional indemnity arrangement

Your revalidation application deadline is the first day of the month that your registration expires. For example, if your registration expires on 30 June 2016, your revalidation application, and fees, will need to be submitted to the NMC by 1 June 2016.
