Position – Theatre Staff Nurse/Scrub Nurse - Theatres

Pulse is currently working on behalf of its highly reputable client to recruit Scrub Nurses/Theatre Practitioners for a permanent roles within a state-of-the-art private hospital in Bath.

About the role

As a Theatre Staff Nurse, you’ll be a key part of the Theatre Team and will be responsible for:

• Ensuing that the theatre department is left stocked up and prepared for the next day
• Acting as first assistant during surgery under the supervision of the Surgeons
• Following guidelines on maintaining patient’s notes and documents, ensuring legibility and accuracy of nursing records, and being aware of the legal implications of these documents
• Monitoring and assessing patient’s condition, responding to changes in condition, proposing/making changes to care plan as required
• Directing and participating in the manoeuvring and the positioning of conscious and unconscious patients
• Handing over and transferring responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information and care is relayed
• Ensuring good communication exists between all healthcare professionals caring for patients and to promote harmonious working relationships and safe working practices.
• Taking all measures to ensure the safety of patients.
• Being competent in the administration of drugs used in the theatre environment
• Assisting with safe custody, storage and control of all drugs within the department
• Being familiar with all departmental and emergency equipment,
• Ensuring that nursing procedures are implemented and maintained in accordance with Clinical Governance policies.
• Collecting statistical information and assist in carrying out audit as required in relation to the service, and attend educational audit process for the unit.

 About you

To be considered for the role of Theatre Staff Nurse, you’ll need to demonstrate:

• Registered Nurse (Level 1 or 2)
• Proven experience working in a busy operating theatre environment
• An awareness of research and evidence based practice in the clinical setting
• Evidence of continuous professional development
• Proven intravenous therapy skills
• Interest & academic ability to undertake further training within a particular speciality
• Experience in the use of computers
• Good communication skills written & verbal, with the ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels
• Effective influencing skills with peer group & senior healthcare professionals
• Teaching & mentoring skills
• Ability to prioritise workload, instruct & direct others
