Typically, a midwife salary in the UK starts at band 5. With 4 years experience, this can rise to £32,000 before moving up to band 6. An experienced, consultant midwife in band 8b-8c can earn between £55,000 – £66,000. A midwife salary in the UK can vary depending on several factors, including, location, experience and the type of organisation you work for.
To get a midwifery job, you first need to either complete a university degree, an apprenticeship or a specialist course ran by a professional body. It’s then helps to do volunteer work to gain some experience before applying for a role as a midwife.
