Pulse is currently working on behalf of its highly reputable client to recruit Endoscopy Nurses to join their Theatre Department within a state-of-the-art private hospital in Reading.

My client welcomes applications from newly qualified and experienced Endoscopy Nurses.

The Endoscopy team is currently working towards JAG accreditation; the ideal candidate will have experience with this process. You will have the opportunity to lead by example and support the safe delivery of individualised care for patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures, from admission to discharge.

The candidate must be passionate in delivering her/his care and continually looking for opportunities to improve and develop their skills to achieve this. The candidate should be eager to take on new responsibilities that may arise which benefits the patients, department and company.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Endoscopy Services and can help deliver a diverse range of Endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

The Endoscopy unit offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including; Upper and Lower GI Endoscopy – Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, and Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, in a very safe environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Using clinical knowledge / expertise, provide a high standard of skilled care to patients based on a full assessment of the individual’s needs in consultation with the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Carry out a pre-assessment of the patient prior to endoscopy taking into account their physical health and psychological needs.

  • Obtain consent from patients for endoscopic procedures after discussing with them the risks and benefits associated with the procedure.

  • Assist the endoscopist with all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Enable patients undergoing endoscopic procedures to tolerate the examination in comfort and safety, taking into account issues of privacy and dignity.

  • Monitor patients during the procedure, and whilst recovering, and deal with any adverse events that occur.

  • Provide post-procedural information to patients and their carers.        

  • Facilitate the induction and orientation of new staff to the department.

  • Act as a mentor / learning resource to learners / junior staff.

  • Actively participate in departmental education programmes.

  • Act in a professional manner and as a role model to other staff.

  • Monitor and report on patient condition to the medical staff, ensuring all members of the healthcare team are kept informed of the changing needs of the patient. Ensure prescribed treatments are carried out.

  • To be competent in the administration of oral drugs used in the ward environment and to undertake relevant drug administration training to comply with corporate guidelines for the control of all drugs.

  • After a period of supervision be able to undertake and deliver education and advice to patients, being able to identify risk factors and life style changes that may influence patient outcomes.

  • To ensure the discharge planning process starts on admission, to prevent delays and make good utilisation of ward resources.

About you

To be considered for the role of Registered General Nurse, you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • Registered Nurse (Level 1 or 2)
  • Experience in Endoscopy (desirable)
  • An awareness of research and evidence based practice in the clinical setting
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Proven intravenous therapy skills
  • Interest & academic ability to undertake further training within a particular speciality
  • Experience in the use of computers
  • Good communication skills written & verbal, with the ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels
  • Effective influencing skills with peer group & senior healthcare professionals
  • Teaching & mentoring skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload, instruct & direct others
