Pulse is currently working on behalf of its highly reputable client to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Day Surgery Deputy Lead to join the Day Surgery Nursing team within a state-of-the-art private hospital in Reading. The Deputy Lead will work in partnership with the Lead Nurse and will be pivotal to the development of the Day Surgery department.

About the role
The post holder will contribute to the achievement of the aims and objectives of the Day Surgery unit. Managing the care and safety of all patients within the unit you will ensure there is an efficient and effective nursing team using appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies/departments as required.
Be responsible for the safe and effective operational management of the Day Surgery Department
Ensure nursing is practiced within the Clinical Governance Framework and create an environment in which excellence in care flourishes.
Demonstrate effective leadership and staff management/development.
To be clinically competent and contribute to direct patient care on a regular basis.
Responsible for ensuring that appropriate assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of care are provided.
To create an environment that provides excellence in nursing and ensures the safe reception, transfer and discharge of patients, their relatives and carers.
To use evidence-based standards to support nursing care and monitor their implementation through proactive clinical audit.
Lead the development of clinical policies, protocols and procedures in the clinical area.
Ensure that nursing practice is consistent with evidence based practice/clinical guidelines.
Develop effective and robust communication systems within the department and other departments.
Ensure the legibility and accuracy of patient/nursing records and monitor compliance with NMC standards for record keeping.
Ensure adherence to policies, local guidelines and current legislation.
Keep Day Surgery unit Lead fully informed of changes in circumstances which may affect the delivery of care
To maintain good communications and working relationships with all health care professionals, patients, their relatives and carers.
Qualifications & Previous Experience
To be considered for the role of Deputy Day Surgery Unit Lead, you’ll need to demonstrate:
First Level Registered Nurse/RSCN/RMN with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience, 2 years of which at senior level.
Substantial operational management experience.
Track record of effective performance at senior level.
Track record in providing expert advice and guidance to multi-professional staff.
Delegated management of finances within budget set including delivery of cost improvements
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to prioritise own workload and that of colleagues
Ability to balance conflicting demands and tight deadlines
Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
Ability to communicate complex data in terms that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences
Ability to work effectively with colleagues
Ability to teach/coach peers, junior staff & trainees
Excellent standard of patient/client care
Demonstrates organisation/leadership abilities
Teaching/Assessing qualifications (desirable)
