My experience of working with Pulse

I always dreamed of becoming a nurse and in 2010 I realised my dream and qualified as a Registered General Nurse. After four years working on an intensive care ward, I made the step from a band 5 to band 6 and became a Nurse Specialist.

I love my job but when I moved roles I lost my enhanced hours, which meant I was actually taking home less salary each month. I was also worried about maintaining my core nursing skills and keeping my evidence base up to date.

I had looked in to working agency shifts before, but the companies I approached could only offer me work in nursing homes and I wanted to remain in an acute setting. That’s when a friend recommended Pulse.

Registering with Pulse

My initial contact was with Nadine, a consultant at Pulse, who I still deal with today. Nadine was really helpful and talked me through the registration and compliance process. I decided to move forward with my application and sent across my completed documents and nursing qualifications. I was really excited by the number of opportunities Pulse had and couldn’t wait to use my skills in new departments and of course top up my pay.

My first Pulse shift

I was offered a choice of two hospitals for my first shift and chose Wansbeck General Hospital, working on the Acute Admissions Unit. I was a little nervous when I arrived but everybody on the ward was really friendly and welcoming. Nadine contacted me before to ensure I was fully prepared and advised me on the parking situation at the hospital. When I had finished my shift I couldn’t wait to book another, especially after I received my pay just two days later.

Why I love Pulse

For me the main benefit of working for Pulse is how quickly I get paid. It is usually in my bank account within two days, which makes life much easier. I’m planning my wedding at the moment, so the extra income from Pulse is much needed and will make a big difference to our special day.

I also love the flexibility of shifts. It allows me to work around my permanent job and home life. Nadine is so helpful and understanding. There is never any pressure from her to work more shifts, which is great because some weeks I can work 2 extra shifts but some weeks I can’t fit any in.

The future

I’m proud to be an NHS nurse but love the extra shifts I get with Pulse and will continue to work with them for the pay, flexibility, support and training I get. I have never had any issues at any of the hospitals I have worked at and feel that Pulse have provided me with all the support and training I need. I love going to other hospitals as you learn so much from working in different settings and absorbing new skills from the people around you. I am really happy and would recommend anybody to join Pulse.
