Taking a long walk through the night for Cancer Research

For most of us an evening stroll is a way to relax. For Nicola, Veronica and Shelley from our Allied Health team it’s all in a nights work raising money for Cancer Research. Wearing bright clothes and glow sticks to shine, the girls started out on the 26.2 mile Shine Night Walk challenge together, accompanied by members of their friends and family, on the 27th September.

After Veronica introduced her mobile phone to a drain near the half way mark, leaving it bobbing somewhere down the Thames, the team went on to complete the course in a respectable 10 hours 20 mins. After successfully reaching the finishing line they were faced with the final hurdle of climbing a flight of steps to collect their well deserved medals. The next day they were told certain parts of their walk had been re-routed so they’d actually walked over 30 miles, an even greater achievement. It was all worth it in the end as the girls received over £2000 in donations for their charitable cause.
