Job Description: We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry with expertise in learning disabilities to join our esteemed team. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert psychiatric care to elderly patients with learning disabilities within inpatient or outpatient settings. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of older adults with complex mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing expert clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of elderly patients with learning disabilities and mental health disorders.
  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and formulating individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines.
  • Providing psychiatric interventions, including medication management and psychotherapy, tailored to the needs of elderly patients with learning disabilities.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including learning disability nurses, psychologists, and social workers, to ensure integrated and holistic care for patients.
  • Participating in clinical governance activities, service development initiatives, and research projects to enhance the quality of care provided.

Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice in the UK.
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych or FRCPsych) or equivalent qualification.
  • Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist with a focus on old age psychiatry and learning disabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with elderly patients, individuals with learning disabilities, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of developments in old age psychiatry and learning disabilities.
