Job Title: Consultant in Adult Psychiatry

Location: Cornwall

Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Adult Psychiatry to join our team in Cornwall. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in providing clinical leadership and expertise in adult mental health, supporting the delivery of comprehensive psychiatric services to individuals in the local community. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to mental health care provision while advancing your career in psychiatry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing expert psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for adults with a wide range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders.
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines, incorporating pharmacological, psychological, and social interventions as appropriate.
  • Providing leadership and clinical supervision to multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists-in-training, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, and social workers, to ensure high-quality and coordinated care delivery.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and clinical reviews to contribute to the development and review of patients’ care plans and treatment goals.
  • Providing education and support to patients and their families/caregivers on mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms and promoting recovery.
  • Collaborating with external agencies, including primary care providers, community mental health teams, and voluntary organizations, to facilitate integrated care pathways and improve access to services.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and research activities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of mental health care provision.

Requirements:

  • Medical degree and completion of specialist training in psychiatry, with full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in adult mental health services, with demonstrable clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with patients and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to delivering person-centered care and promoting recovery-oriented practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices in adult mental health care.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call duties and attend meetings and training sessions as required.
