London borough of Hillingdon
Hillingdon is located on the western edge of Greater London with good public transport links to Central London and to the national road network via the M25, M40 and M4. Heathrow Airport is located within the borough’s boundaries.
Hillingdon is by area the second largest London borough and has a population of 257,000. Hillingdon’s population is diverse. Some 19% of the population are from ethnic minority communities. Unemployment in the borough is below the London average.
The north of the borough is characterised by residential suburbs with substantial areas of green belt land. The south is more urban with the majority of industrial activity concentrated around Hayes, West Drayton and Heathrow Airport. There are over 7,500 businesses in the borough with many UK and international firms with headquarters here.
The council is responsible for providing the full range of local authority services including, education, social services, environmental services, housing, leisure services and libraries.
