Second-in-Charge English Teacher - Islington

Job description

Apply for this job

In a media landscape dominated by Twitter and Snapchat, it's somehow your job to instil in your students a love of literature. Social media panopticons should shoulder some of that responsibility. After all, their entire business model relies on eroding the national attention span.

If you're undaunted by the challenge of teaching Shakespeare to a generation increasingly interested in the expressive possibilities of emojis, then you deserve a school that values you.

That school looks like middle management thinking deeply about marking, assessing, and lesson planning policies from the perspective of reducing teacher workload. A place where SLT supports sensible, consistently applied behaviour management practices that enable teachers to start lessons from the moment the bell rings. In staff meetings and breakrooms, Ofsted isn't mentioned literally every five minutes.

If 2iC responsibilities in such a school sound appealing, and you're ready to proselytise on behalf of the legacy and import of the literary tradition, please get in touch today. We're looking for a candidate that can start in September or January.

The successful candidate must have:

  • QTS
  • Subject relevant degree
  • Experience teaching English in UK secondary schools, preferably at least two years
  • A passionate, methodical attitude towards teaching
