The course is predominantly self-directed so you will not be required to spend days in a classroom. Each course consists of ONLY 4 contact days, 2 of which are flexible but need to be completed during the 20 days protected learning! You will need to have access to the Internet whilst completing the program.
The aim of this programme is to ensure consistency in preparing all applicants for UK registration and was developed to be comparable to the requirements expected of nurses trained in the UK. The content of the ONP is designed to orientate you, as an overseas trained nurse, to the following aspects of the health care and nursing in the UK:
- The UK as a multicultural society
- The structure of the NHS and Social Care Services
- The relationship between the NHS and the independent sector
- The changing healthcare environment
- Practitioner-client relationships
- Effective communication
- Patient involvement
- The NMC code of professional conduct, standards of conduct, performance and ethics
- Accountability
- The legal framework within which care is delivered
- Clinical governance and how the NMC standards contribute to this
- Evidence based practice
- Holistic care (including health promotion & education)
- Multidisciplinary team working
- Numeracy skills

PULSE have plenty of work opportunities for you to take advantage of whilst you complete your ONP by working as a Health Care Assistant (HCA). This would be in various clinical settings including the public and private hospital sectors, the community, in the home and clinics and outpatient departments! Please get in touch with PULSE using the below contact details to start the application process.
Please ensure that your NMC Decision Letter is valid and dated within 2 years of commencing your ONP course. You must also complete the ONP within 12 months of starting. PULSE recommend where possible to complete the program within the 20 days allocated, however if you are unable to finish your course work in time you do have the option to sign off with the proceeding course.
Independent places are also available on each course for those who aren’t interested in registering with PULSE agency *.
If you have been requested to complete a period of SUPERVISED PRACTICE then PULSE will NOT be able to assist you so you will need to seek acceptance and placement at an alternative NMC approved institution to complete this course. Please refer the NMC website for a list of institutions on http://www.nmc-uk.org.
