Description

We raised more than £15k with employees cycling from Bristol to London!

On 17th November, an intrepid team of nine employees from Independent Clinical Services donned their lycra and hi-vis and endured saddle sores during a two day cycling challenge for charity. The cyclists’ journey took them from the offices of ICS in Long Ashton, near Bristol, all the way to the offices of PULSE in Bloomsbury, London.

The ICS employees raised funds online in support of the cycling challenge. The funds raised support the work of Brainwave, a UK Charity providing life changing Therapy for children with disabilities. Richard MacMillan, one of the cyclists and Chief Executive of ICS, said “I am very proud that the team raised more than £15000 which will provide a year of daily Therapy for four amazing children on the Brainwave Programme.”

The first child to benefit from life-changing therapy is a little girl named Ava from the London area. The second and third children to benefit are twins from Bristol named Jacob and Michael. The forth child who will receive a year of Therapy is also named Jacob, the son of a former ICS employee.

Ava’s mum and dad, Liz and Dan, welcomed the cyclists to the Pulse offices in London. Liz added, “I want to say a huge thank you to the cyclists from ICS on behalf of my family and any other families you are able to support as a result of this challenge. Raising a child as precious as Ava, can be a lonely and daunting experience, but it’s events like this that make a huge difference. To know there are people out there who are willing to challenge themselves, to do something amazing, to help us and our little girl is totally overwhelming. The ICS cyclists are fabulous, possibly slightly mad, but fabulous!”

Brainwave offers an holistic approach to therapy incorporating Paediatric Physiotherapy, Cognitive Therapy, Educational Therapy and more. Day by day children are achieving new skills like learning to walk, to feed themselves, enhanced communication and more. There are more than 500 children on the Brainwave programme across the UK. The Charity runs Centres in Essex, Somerset and Cheshire.
