ABOUT GLADSTONE
Gladstone is on the central Queensland coast and is noted for its beautiful harbour. It is a port and industrial city with a power station, two alumina refineries, an aluminium smelter, and vast export tonnages of coal, magnesite, woodchip and grain go through the port. It is a progressive planned city where industrial sites are outside the city precinct and pollution from industry is low. The city has extensive parks and sporting fields, public and private schools, theatre and cultural events, beaches nearby and great boating and fishing. Heron Island, one of the few true coral cays of the Great Barrier Reef is off the coast. The average income is higher than most cities, and the population is primarily working families. The population of the city area is about 40,000 and a further 15,000 in the environs. Gladstone is currently experiencing a boom in population as four new LNG gas processing facilities move into construction phase with thousands of expected workers.
