The busy surgical ward offers a dynamic and innovative environment for nurses to provide complex patient-centred care for people who have undergone major surgery. You will develop or enhance your skills in caring for patients who have undergone plastic and reconstructive surgery, vascular surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, breast and endocrine surgery and burn surgery.
Within the supportive environment, you will advance your clinical skills in caring for surgical patients admitted from ED or post surgery as well as caring for patients discharged from Intensive Care.
As a new staff member, you will participate in our supportive orientation program working with a dedicated preceptor and a full time Clinical Support and Development Nurse. Some of the other resources available include an Intensive Care Liaison Nurse available 7 days a week, a dedicated Medical Emergency Team, a Burns Liaison Nurse and Care Coordinator (dedicated to the plastics/burns team) who help to organise and facilitate patient care from admission to discharge. A flexible approach to your roster can include full time or part time hours and unit based staffing.
You will demonstrate a caring approach to patients, work well in a team, and be motivated to learn in this exciting area. Don't worry if your knowledge of surgery needs refreshing, as we provide a supportive environment for you to gain skills and experience in this area.
