Description
Pulse International is looking for a Medical Officer for a rural hospital in South Otago, New Zealand. The successful candidate will have at least 3 years post-graduate experience and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
The hospital has 15 medical inpatient beds, Community Services, Outpatients Department and a Maternity Unit. On site are laboratory facilities, Physiotherapy and Radiology Departments. Attached to the hospital is a General Practice surgery where 5 General Practitioners are based. The mobile surgical bus visits regularly.
While on duty the Medical Officer is directly responsible for patients in the Inpatient Ward and will be the duty doctor. The shift pattern is 8 hour day shifts and 16 hour night shifts with the night duty doctor on call from home for both hospital and pre-screened GP calls.
A Consultant Physician visits weekly and there are weekly specialist clinics.
The hospital is a Rural Teaching Centre for the University of Otago's Rural Medical Immersion Programme and hosts 5th year medical students who spend an entire academic year here. The Medical Officer will be part of the team assisting in the teaching of those students and will be a member of the University facility
