About Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust was created on 1 October 2007 by merging St Mary’s NHS Trust and Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and integrating with Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine. Now the largest NHS trust in the country, we have come together to establish the UK’s first academic health science centre (AHSC).
The creation of the AHSC is a major advance for patient care, clinical teaching and scientific invention and innovation. The fusion of the different strands of our work and the achievements that can now be realised will lead to significant benefits for patients and greater advances in healthcare than we could have delivered apart.
It is the only NHS trust in England to treat patients at every stage of life, from conception to care of the elderly – a total of around 40 combined specialties.
